Getting nature and city all-in-one place is the best part about a Denver weekend trip. I always thought nature and city were two stepsisters who had no chance of being in the same place. Except this place is like no place: picture a young sprawling Midwest skyline amongst Mother Nature’s finest mountain tops. This is why a Denver weekend trip should be next on your bucket list.

Getting There ✈️🧳

Getting to Denver won’t be the most expensive part of the trip, in my opinion. If you are flying from a major city, you can find a solid deal for a Denver weekend trip. The next task is having a rental car for the weekend. I highly recommend booking a 4×4 vehicle that can help you drive on snowy roads if you are planning to venture into the mountain towns.

Pro Tip: Avoid waiting in the long line for your rental by joining the rental company’s priority membership (Budget’s Membership program, Hertz Presidental Status, etc.)

Day 1: Evening Hangs 🌙

For this Denver weekend trip, we booked the perfect place to stay: a three-story townhouse right in South Central. And yes, you can walk to everything nearby, coffee shops, street art, patio happy hour, and even a nature trail called Cherry Creek. Arriving at our Airbnb made us feel right at home from amazing hosts @chatterclub—between the snacks, beverages and those Rocky Mountain views.

Once we settled into our new home for the weekend, we headed over to Barcelona Wine Bar for a late-night dinner. Their tapas made from scratch were sure to cure anything that ails you. Looking for a good local haunt, our bartender suggested we go to Gold Point Bar. Since their beautiful patio was frozen, we went inside with all the hipsters to sip on lavish whiskey cocktails.

Day 2: Spent Exploring the City! 🌆

We spent the morning eating the only way we knew how: with biscuits that were bigger than our heads at Denver Biscuit Co. After a coffee and a mimosa, we wandered down to the nearby shops to see if the locals were out strolling around for the day. We were lucky to stumble upon art galleries, book shops with cocktails, and of course, an afternoon donut (or three).

One of the places that makes a Denver weekend trip unique is none other than Meow Wolf. After shopping all day, we closed out the evening with this immersive art experience (open until midnight on weekends!) We found ourselves venturing through four stories of sheer wonder. From Japanese-inspired storefronts to Avatar-inspired forests, it’s an exhibit you have to see to believe.

Day 3: Day Trip to Breckenridge 🛣

Okay, day two breakfast was done right with breakfast tacos from Torchy’s Tacos. If you’ve ever been to Austin, Texas—eating at Torchy’s is straight-up nostalgia. We got on the road to head to our ski trip in

Doing a ski school for the day was the move since most of our group hadn’t skied before, and I would highly recommend it! (We paid $56 Lift Pass / $56 Gear & $200 for the Ski School—prices vary by day.) Skiing is a pricey sport, I’ll admit, but the quality of the resort was top-notch: plenty of lodges to hang in and slopes at every level—beginner, novice, and dare we say—daredevil level. 😈

Before driving back to Denver, a local recommended that we eat at Hearthstone (a house converted into a restaurant!) While waiting for our table, we roamed around and saw local streets filled with snow, visitors, and Christmas lights. Truly the best location for a winter destination! Dinner was a hit with slow-cooked short ribs and a glass of red wine to cap the night.

Reasons I Would Visit Denver Again ✅

#1 The eclectic culture of the city is an incredible contrast to the homey feeling of the mountain towns.

#2 Aside from driving in snow on the ride back, the city wasn’t as congested with traffic as some cities are.

#3 The people were friendly and open to sharing as many recommendations as needed.

#4 There’s incredible vintage shopping on Broadway Street, and several other neighborhoods nearby.

#5 Late-night restaurants like Barcelona Wine Bar know how to make you feel like it’s a cosmopolitan night out in New York City. ‘Sex in the City’ vibes, anyone?

Denver Watch-Out’s ❌

#1 Denver Airport feels like it’s so far away from the city, and the TSA Pre-Check line was almost the same size as the average TSA line! (I was traveling on a holiday, but still 🤯)

#2 In certain parts of the city, there are several homeless encampments. Not as extreme as in larger cities, but still worth a watch-out.

#3 Driving on snow! If you are driving to and from a mountain town, come prepared in an all-wheel drive vehicle and bring a friend who isn’t afraid to drive in the snow. 😝

The Magic of Denver ✨

You can see there are many amazing reasons to plan a Denver weekend trip. This city is so accessible—to Mother Nature and urban magic—that you can’t go wrong spending as many as 3-5 days in this city. Whether you choose the most unique destinations like Meow Wolf or an unsuspecting bookstore with cocktails—just know—you can’t go wrong when in Denver.
